HSCD Volunteer Training

Every year the Hospice Society of Camrose & District  tries to offer a training program that is open to the public.

You are welcome to participate, whether you choose to become a volunteer or not, however, first seats are reserved for those intending to complete volunteer registration.

Those choosing to become registered volunteers will be interviewed, asked to supply references, and to provide a criminal record check.

Training occurs on via online modules, several evening modules through the year, and one full weekend intensive.


Possible Training Program Outline:

 
  • History of Hospice and the Modern Hospice Movement
  • Role of the Volunteer
  • Introduction to Palliative/end-of-life Support, and the Value of Silence
  • Effective Communication
  • Family Dynamics
  • Emotional & Spiritual Support: A vision for holistic care 
  • Companioning the Bereaved
  • Physical Care of the Dying and Comfort Care
  • Grief & Bereavement
  • Self Care: Grace and compassion for self and others
  • Policies and Ethics

Those who wish to become certified in  volunteer caregiver roles must complete all training sessions.

Hospice Society of Camrose & District volunteers are known for their compassion, integrity, and skilled care. To maintain high quality in our volunteer program, attention to volunteer intake, training, and support are key.

Those interested in any of our volunteer opportunities are required to:
  • Contact Lorraine Badry
  • Ask for the HSCD Volunteer Application 
  • Meet with Volunteer Coordinator for a personal interview
  • Request and submit a completed police check.
  • Complete volunteer training.
  • Attend ongoing opportunities for learning, enrichment, and support programs.
